Waiting Poem by Kailee Falvo

Waiting

I waited for you
I stared at my phone aimlessly
As if you would actually call.
As each minute passed without
My phone calling out to me,
Another thought hit me like a
Razor blade hits my skin.
“am I not pretty enough? ”
“Is my body not what he pictures? ”
“Am I not skinny enough? ”
At first, we exchanged glances
Then smiles and laughs until the
Night ended, neither of us wanting
To depart.
So just as we exchanged glances,
We exchanged phone numbers.
I waited for you to text me, and
You did, keeping me up all night.
Yet, I wouldn’t have changed my
Lack of sleep that night for anything
You didn’t keep me waiting and
Asked me out; just the two of us.
We walked together, hands inter
Twined with one another.
As the temperature dropped,
Our bodies molded together like
Puzzle pieces in some fantasy love story.
While we sat there, our bodies
Touching and exchanging body heat,
You beautiful eyes looked at me
And we exchanged our first kiss.
The night ended, with me smiling
From ear to ear, calling my best friend
To tell her about the news.
As morning came in,
The wait began and is still continuing.
