Walking In Shadows Poem by Chukwuebuka Adebayo

Walking In Shadows

Walking in shadows,
I look like you on walls—
When the night comes down.

The street we once walked
Two hands side by side,
Now one hand is sheathed.

The music beats fast,
Golden memories linger,
Crimson tears cascade.

Journeys in the rain,
Fishes dancing down on us,
Now I stand alone with you.

No footprints in powder,
Fading with each crashing wave,
For tide takes them away.

A voice in the wind—
Softly calling out your name,
I turn, but you're gone.

Through few months we shared,
A bond forged during school's help
Now shadows remain.

In dreams, hope you return,
A fleeting glimpse of your smile,
Before the morning breaks cold.

Yet sun's light abides,
In our heart, you lives always,
A flame unextinguished.

Mama Akim, Iya Alata
In the stories we once told,
Aunty lives on.
