War At Home Never Spared Poem by Steven Drake

War At Home Never Spared

Droves in whispers sheltered
By pain
Free confessions rack the brain
Poetry in dynamics lost to
Silent prayers
Magic gone down the stairs
Fear of enlighten
Shared by whom?

Gloom in thunder's pages
Bleeding raw
Held in contempt of far gone laws
Love taken, villainous recall
Slipping out of skin falling down
The wall
Pictured perfect in art
Spinning tales.

Catch a secret
No time left to yield
Far in advance of any shield
Rallying asunder of Hades' underground
Punches taking blows in carousels
Child lost to eyes of poverty
Lain awake sequestered
Dreams.

Cats in closets drawing claws
As per questions' quest of
Pilgrimage
Nothing given up for freedom's
Peace
Shackled down by chains
Horses flying up with wings
Chariots lost to singing grace.

Fire in heart, church bells ring
Arrows taking flight to pierce
The mind
Ears buzzing where souls abide
Heroes lost to one more
Protagonist
Drawing swords in flash of steel
Nothing sacred for how real.

Freelancing one's appeal
Crosses bear up to cavalry
Carpets bag feats for
Red hot coals
Taking titles where shadows grow
Off the pavement
Rocket's red glare
War at home never spared.
