Warning Poem by sharon catley

Warning

Nature normally includes a caveat when she creates something dangerous…
(Rattlesnake tail rattles..
aposematic butterfly wings…
brightly colored poisonous frogs and snakes…)
So you should have come with one..
(Maybe tattooed in small letters behind your ear?
or on the inside of your lower lip? ….
I would have found it there.)
Something similar to the one found on your cigarette packages..
It could say, "Beware - Prolonged Exposure will result in Heartbreak"

Or you could have displayed a caution…
Like the one on your car's side view mirror…..
It could say, "Watch out - Affections are much smaller than they appear".

Even if you had shown an expiry date…
Like the one on your milk carton..
It could say "Warning - Don't fall in love - Relationship will expire in three months"..

You should have come with an admonition…of some type….

Then perhaps I wouldn't have become this desperate, bitter thing
Who sits here and writes silly poetry to exorcize you from her soul..
And it wouldn't have taken so long for my eyes …
To see you for whom you really are...
(A fickle,
selfish,
insincere,
uncaring
shallow man..)
Not worthy of my love at all….

But this heart of mine..
This foolish, foolish heart of mine
Still thinks you are…. special…….wonderful…
How can a heart be so blind?

You should have come with a warning….
