Coming back, I'm not bound for glory
Get me home, I've been too long away
Seen hell's gates and lived to tell the story
Been poorly done, left to fight another day
Glory road, I searched and did not find it
Was a dream that never did come true
Tortured hopes remain in fractured mind then
I'm homeward bound, wishing I was with you
Battle scarred, both soul and body shaken
What sad thoughts I've carried in my heart
Each new dawn, another brother taken
Such young lives, from that world's day depart
Embattled soul, I've fought for love of country
I've given my all, and unbeknown the cost
Give us our due, we've toiled for all and sundry
Reflections of war, so many good men lost
Lay me down in meadows towards sunset
Leave me be, my body's all but run
Call my name, announce me to the nation
This struggling man, once called a warrior son
