Washed Away Poem by Shirley Harrison

Washed Away

Washed away in a tropical storm
swept into the gutter of lost love
down into the deep dark drains of
oh, how I wish it could've been different

it's the only way I can describe losing you
in torrential rain and hurricane winds
that just wouldn't quiet
until that precious moment
I let go of your so called love
and let it all just run free

by opening my eyes
and closing my heart

I did it...

and now?

I will never, ever again
leave home
without a heavy-duty umbrella
