Watch the sea my love
Remain as long
As you will
But remain long
While age and sorrow
Cunning eyed carry along
Ah! that watching
Bring fond memories
Inscribed
In every rustling
And sweet pebble churning.

This poem is similar in impact to the Monsignor poem but in this case there is a deep intimacy running just beneath the narrator's words. Thuis is a breathless moment when the normal running of the world is muted so that we can hear the hearts beating in tandem. You don; t say that directly - it's what I intuit from imagery of a very still night by the sea which almost functions like an enclosure protecting the speaker and his partner. It's a sensuous perception.
