We Are The Black Family Poem by j l price

We Are The Black Family

The black family first began
with our Mom and our dad
Our joys and our sorrows
and how they calm us when we are sad
It's Mom's potato salad,
her macaroni and cheese
and her good ole fried chicken
It's Dad's stability as a provider
and how he just keeps right on ticking
It's supporting our favorite actors
and Denzel Washington fits that bill
It's supporting our favorite sports teams
and when they win it gives us a thrill
It's family struggles and so we pray
that in time it will ease our pain
We're relying on God through good and bad times
in him we will always have gain
It's cookouts, family gatherings,
Our dreams and our own aspirations
It's gaining knowledge as we get older
so we can make a difference in our nation
Sometimes we're broken- then we're fixed
Sometimes we're angry- then we're forgiven
We are a collection of so many different things
Yet we live, we love and we correct
We are the black family
