We Could Be So Much Less Poem by Colin Wood

We Could Be So Much Less

I don't want to get close to you,
You don't want to understand me,
We don't want to feel each others pain.
Its not me, its not you, its us.
You could tell me all things I don't want to hear,
I could tell you all the fears you have yet to fear,
but then what?
Whats left to reveal or discover?
We could fall into arkward silence,
Or replace it all with lust,
We could depart as perfect strangers
Before our friendship turns to dust
We can pretend we never met,
'You never knew me and who are you.'
That would end up misrepresenting
Everything we were together.
Then all between us would all be gone.
The hours, minutes and seconds we could have shared
Have all already passed.
So I wish a fond farewell,
Adiou,
The friend I never knew.
