Some Britons still speak of an Empire
When an Empire no longer exists.

Once commented on this
With a phrase he could not resist.
'Britain lost an Empire
But had not found a role'...
He spoke the lines - mid twentieth century.
The words kind of touched the soul.
My thoughts now roam to the honours system
Which is certainly in need of revision:
The MBE, OBE, not to mention the CBE
Should be adjusted accordingly.
Updated at last; the word Empire
Belongs to the past.
