We The Paradox Poem by Michelle Dragonfly

We The Paradox

They'll never catch us!
They won't, I promise!
We can be us forever,
You and I alone as one.

Even as their hands
Are wrapped around our wrists,
Dragging us back
Not a moment after
We'd ever even left.

They won't know
Who they might be watching.
Me or you, you or me,

Never apart,
But never together.

They'll know every
Single
Difference.

Able to spot every
Single
Difference.
For there are so many of them.

No way for anyone
To get us confused.

We are the same
But nothing alike.
I am you, but you aren't me.
You are more me
Than I could ever be,
But I am nothing similar to you.

I love you,
But you hate me.
I am your everything,
But I despise every fiber
Of your being.

We toss and turn
And yet are stiller
Than still can be.

We die, and die,
And are deader
Than deader
Could ever be.
But still we breathe
We live, immortal.

We'll never reach health,
But we're already there.

We're invisible,
But no one is blind
To the sight of us.
I am seen by all.
And you, my loveless
Counterpart.

I'm a stranger to you,
But you know me perfectly.
You've no idea
Anything about me,
But I know you best of all.

You say you know me.
I guess this is true.
You know me better
Than my family members do.
But I suppose
That's to be expected.

Family, no matter the kind,
Cannot compare
To a personality
Locked in my head.
