We Were Just Little Boys Poem by Mustafa Marconi

We Were Just Little Boys

It is time to awaken
From this restless slumber
Seems the tides of uncertain waters
Has washed ashore failure
Upon our not to distant horizon
We are at the mercy of our own will
The will that we have as a people
To live or to die
You know my brothers
We were just little boys
Time was on our side
How could we have known
That death was our destiny
When we were so unaware
Of our spiritual needs
Life was a cycle of childish laughter
But now the games are so frightening real
Seems like the roads to adulthood
Has led us to the paths
Of insecurity and doom
We are at the mercy of our own will
The will that we have as a people
To fail or to succeed
It is time to awaken from this sleepless slumber
To put away all of our grown up toys
How could we have known that life was our destiny
When we were just little boys
