*web Of Lies* Poem by Natasha Dowdy

*web Of Lies*

Rating: 2.6

I once knew a bride
who on the day she died,
told her groom her love was untrue.

She had been with another,
who had become her lover,
now the groom would no longer do.

She looked into his eyes,
and should have been more wise,
as the angry fire in them grew.

She continued to say,
how her lover touched her in a way
the groom could never do.

He wanted to shout
and thrash her about,
but his temper he kept cool

He demanded to know,
this others face she must show.
God how he had been a fool.

She lead him to the place,
to show her lovers face.
What she found blew her mind.

He had taken another
to be his lover.
This wasn't what she expected to find.

Her sister in his bed.
Now her legs felt like lead,
this wasn't how it was supposed to be.

The groom stood in his place,
and spat in her face,
'How dare you hurt me! '

He turned to walk away
with nothing left to say,
and she fell to her knees and begged.

His heart had been crushed,
for a moment of lust,
and now she clung to his leg.

He pushed her away
and left her there to stay,
staring her lost dream in the eyes.

This was the day
she took her life away,
the story behind her demise.

'What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.'

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

The string of emotions described spread like a web that leads back to where it all starts from. The idea of deceit and its spiralling effect is nicely portrayed throughout the poem. Lies beget lies, and the hurt that entails is always baggage. 'Web of lies' is a poem to be appaluded.
