Welcome Home Poem by Ronald Speight

Welcome Home

Rating: 3.5

Welcome home, are the words I use to greet a hero
He says thank you but for me this is no home
Only a place of residence he says young and dumb
He fell for a glorified lie leave a boy then
Return a hero were his thoughts

But only left with scars not physical and dirty looks
From the misunderstood I tell him only the ignorant
Place blame

For you are a solider a hero to me and you only did as told
Understanding my plea he still doesn’t call this home
He wanders as a body with a soul and a sprit long gone
Because those he fought for can’t welcome him home
