WELLINGTON
Poneke a Tara
Houses cascade in static splendour
Rooted shallower than the trees before
Denying the force which bids them move
DOWN
Sunlight rolls back the dark
Moving from peak to foot
DOWN
Birds have flown to contemporary roosts
Those sagging antennae which advise
Direction of prevailing winds
Sagging
DOWN
Houses perch in chaotic sprawl
Some built with the aid of flying foxes
That never really flew
Merely travelled captive up and
DOWN
May the earth never move
May gravity not have its way
May those houses built on hope
Never tumble
DOWN
