What Am I, An Engineer? Poem by nyxara dreamer

What Am I, An Engineer?

WHAT AM I?
I am a robot,
learning from the heartless robots,
teaching robots to walk, to learn, to run.
I am a robot,
following the orders of other robots like me,
pressed beneath the constant weight of building a future
where machines think and rule,
and life itself disappears.
But what am I?
I am supposed to be human—
to feel the world,
to taste happiness and sadness,
to live in joy.
Instead, I feel nothing:
burnout, deadlines,
dreams shattered, paths broken.
Every night I ask myself:
What am I?
A human with emotions,
or a robot with none?
Thoughts pile up,
and all I want is to run—
run away from responsibility,
run away from guilt.
But I cannot.
What am I?
A robot working for society?
A smiling mask for the world?
A machine dedicated to duty,
yet haunted by the dream I never followed.
And still, the question lingers,
rent-free in my mind:
Am I a robot, or a human?
Even robots know what they are.
Perhaps I am suspended
between life and death,
unable to choose.
And I know,
even after death,
the answer will not come.
What am I?
