What Are Friends? Poem by Alan Bruce Thompson

What Are Friends?

What are Friends, what are they?
Someone does something voluntarily and I don't have to pay?
But for me a richman, money gets whatever I say,
Anything I want, at any moment of the day.

I pay for love, I pay for time,
When it costs a dollar, I give a dime.
Without these hangers on, I do just fine,
So who are these friends? They're no friends of mine.

I have everything I want, I'd rather be alone,
Because with just me, I can curse and moan.
It's true I miss not having a good talk on the phone
But I'm so selfish, I wouldn't even share a groan.
