What Are The Benefits Of Being Alone? Poem by Mark. A Heathcote

What Are The Benefits Of Being Alone?

What are the benefits of being alone?
Watching the end of your favourite TV show
Knowing no interruptions are coming home
To roost. Knowing there's no death blow

Clenched in a fist, waiting for you
What are the benefits of being alone?
What will tomorrow bring, and what will it imbue?
Another unbeknownst anklebone

Touching you before you go deep into yourself
Regret your abstinence fell off the shelf.
What are the benefits of being alone?
When you're too tired to sleep

And your feet are cold beneath the empty bedsheet.
What are the benefits of being alone?
Taking out the trash for those meals for one
You could never finish because it's burnt; it's overdone again.

Like being alone, it's overdone again.
