What Dr. Seuss Knew Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

What Dr. Seuss Knew

Rating: 3.8

Yeah, uh-huh, big deal so what
Dr. Seuss taught me a better way
But not tonight, not today
Nodding, grinning, smiling wide
Always trying to do what's right
No not tonight, not today

Maybe somewhere in Italy
A tiny village in the mountains
With no internet and no T.V.
Wine and song around the fountains
Smiling faces in the square
Love and laughter everywhere

Haven't I paid my dues by now?
Wearing a smile in a land of clowns
Chasing that old silver lining
Turning a frown upside down
Grinning while they strike the tent
Wondering where the good times went

I'm calling it quits once and for all
This plastic world is wearing thin
No more turning the other cheek
No more taking it on the chin
Putting it all on the line
Spinning the wheel, one last time

Just when it seems I've had my fill
Some stranger passes by
Some fellow traveler on this road
Some common fellow, a regular guy
Someone in need of a helping hand
And once again I understand

We are all in this together
Perhaps I am exactly where I need to be
Through sunny days and stormy weather
There are those who rely on me
I guess ole' Seuss really knew
We are all in this together, me and you.
