What happened to the grey?
I thought it was there,
somewhere.
I searched the color charts;
the tone charts;
I searched the spectrum
and a prism.
What happened to the grey?
Daddy took it away.

Where did he hide the grey?
I looked behind the sun-
shine's ray.
I searched beneath my palette;
over my easel;
I searched in Heaven and in
dark Hell.
Where did he hide the grey?
Between the black and white.

Why did he take the grey?
I could not comprehend
or see.
I searched the intellect;
I searched God.
The grey seems necessary
to me.
Why did he take the grey?
So pain would go away.
