What Have I Learned From You? Poem by Franchesca Mia Tortoza

What Have I Learned From You?

One fateful day, he said to me,
'Something I really, really wish you'd see,
You called me abnormal, you say I'm crazy,
But I'm just unique, and extraordinary.'

One day, I heard him sigh,
'See those stars and meteors in the sky?
I wish everyone's point of view was as high,
And as wide as the universe we live by.'

'You don't have to change, ' said he,
'for those who chide you mercilessly,
Accepting what they say you'll be,
Is a one-way trip to misery.'

'Why must I do what they do too? '
He asked, 'Why to fads must I stay true?
I'm my own man, and I say to you,
Do what you love, and love what you do.'

'You don't have to be what they say,
Always choose yourself what way,
You'd go and forever stay, '
Is what he would always say.
