I have learned how to cry a thousand tears,
only now I have learned to laugh and smile at one who laughs and smiles with me.
I have learned I am only a girl in this body,
only now I have been confronted by this real man.
I have learned to think such wondrous thoughts,
only now I have lied awake in deepest thought, curled as a child in my bed, full of hurt.
I have learned how to pine,
in all the languages of the earth,
only now that I have learned it was not I that avoided the world, but the world avoided me.
I have learned how to feel,
with every fibre of my being,
only now that I have learned how far my soul will stretch.
And I have learned how to fear,
only now that I have so much to fear.
