What I Keep Expecting Poem by Akoni Pakeli

What I Keep Expecting

I keep expecting to see you,
Every time I turn around.
I keep expecting you to be there,
Holding me to the ground.
I keep expecting you to come back,
And pull me into your arms.
I keep expecting to hate you,
But I can never find it in my heart.
You turned my life around,
You showed me what love really is.
You turned me from the darkness within,
And showed me the light.
I keep expecting you to come back to me,
And tell me you want to be with me.
I keep expecting you to be beside me,
Keeping me from insanity.
Above everything else,
I keep expecting you to be mine,
But I know that's not what you want,
And I know that it's possible you may never be mine.
I love you.
Those words have never been more true,
Than when I speak them to you.
My heart belongs to you,
And I keep expecting you to turn away from him.
I keep expecting you to love me as I love you,
Comparing all the others to me,
As I do with you.
I thought I knew love before,
But meeting you and falling,
Has shown me what love really is.
I keep expecting you to see,
That you are more important to me,
Than anyone or anything else.
And that you will always be,
The only one for me.
