What Is A Friend Poem by john patrick brien

What Is A Friend

A friend can be a male or female, some one young or old,
Who may be shy and retiring, or some one out going and bold.

Or someone who has no description, like lots of people do.
They just stay in the back ground, and listen, but are always there for you.

Through good times and through bad times, or when you feel alone,
Who is that reliable person, at the other end of the phone.

When you have a problem, who will understand, ? and always be on your side, and lend a helping hand.

If you can make each other laugh, even when you’re feeling down,
And smile again when you think of it, when there is no one else around.

When you will not be criticised, just for being you,
Then who your with is irrelevant, you found a friend that’s true.

Once the friends you have are gone, if you are left behind,
They will just be happy memories, forever in your mind.

If I die first, will their thoughts of me, be how I think, I have been,
Or will there memories be of things, that were very unkind, or mean.

However it goes, when I am gone, I suppose I shouldn’t care,
As after all they are only thoughts, and I will not be there.

I would like to think their memories of me, were happy, even good.
My hand full of friends, I love dearly, as any true friend should.
