What Is Poetry Poem by Brandon McConnell

What Is Poetry

Rating: 5.0

What is poetry more than words
Thought into existence by a writer.

What is life than a mystery unspurred
No explanation seeming any righter.

What is death than sad feelings blurred
Friends’ burdens becoming not lighter.

What is love than adoration preferred
A bond constantly growing ever tighter.

What is pain than good feelings deterred
Emotions never growing any brighter.

Poetry is so much more words
Reflecting emotions felt by a writer.

Thanks! In this poem, I was really trying to convey the message that poetry has so much more meaning than just being words on a sheet of paper or website. A poem reflects the passion and true identity of its author. I tried to make most stanzas sound like understatements, as I did to the first stanza, asking what the significance is of poetry. But everything flips at the end, revealing the hidden truth.
