What It Is To Be Poem by Joe Moore

What It Is To Be

I lost three buddies yesterday,
And said a prayer for their families today.

I pack my rucksack, and ready my weapon,
Grab my helmet, and prepare for the next mission.

Today could very well be my day,
If the enemy has their way.

So I pray for my family and nation to,
And for my fellow soldiers and friends.

There’s no time to mourn the fallin’,
Or their death may be for nothin’.

I hope America will remember them,
Though their focus isn’t on them.

My country may not know me,
But I know WHAT IT IS TO BE.

Those three soldiers died for that,
And I will be ruined if we fail now.

My nation will be safe and free,
And that is WHAT IT IS TO BE.
