What Kind Of Fool Poem by Mary Champion

What Kind Of Fool

What kind of fool
goes to extreme lengths
to hide their pain and anguish,
then feels angry at others
for being unaware of their lonely tears
and failing to offer sympathy
for their breaking heart?

What kind of fool
cannot bear the thought of being pitied,
but wallows in self-pity
at their lack of empathy?

What kind of fool
builds an impregnable façade
to hide their lonely misery
then feels aggrieved
because no one can penetrate it?

What kind of fool
makes it their life's work
to ensure that no one needs to worry about them,
then feels hard-done-by
when they succeed?
