What's The Point? Poem by Felicity Koch

What's The Point?

What's the point of keeping your sugar good?
It will just get high again
What's the point of checking your sugar?
Knowing won't change anything
What's the point of changing your site?
It will just fail like it always does
What's the point of an A1C?
I already know that it's bad
What's the point of a urine test?
If they fail they fail
What's the point of counting carbs?
I always forget to bolus anyways
What's the point of hoping?
The cure will never come
What's the point of trying?
That just leads to disappointment
What's the point of pretending?
You can't fool yourself
It doesn't matter anymore
I've given up

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Nice way of capturing the signs and symptoms of developing burnout with issues that are chronic whether related to diabetes or any issue requiring ongoing attention whether related to medical issues, financial or political. I think it is our nature and reinforced by our culture that there should be a 'fix' for everything, that the fix should be accomplished in the short term and that it won't return if it is. I trust the questions in the poem are from a 'devil's advocate' vantage and are rhetorical.
