Sounds like you're stuck! The heart has reasons that reason does not know, I think the quote goes. The paradoxes are all par for the course. I take it you're breaking some kind of personal taboos to be together, that were once reinforced by your conscious attitudes, but are no longer...and so, 'not supposed to' is meant ironically, and applies to the past, not the present...
