What We Miss Poem by Trevor Toews

What We Miss

I took a walk along the canal tonight,
And nobody else saw what I witnessed there.
I could say, but I wouldn't get it right;
I had the advantage of the fading light;
To expect you'd see it the same would seem unfair,
(Although at the moment I would have been willing to share!)

You missed this chance, but I missed you even more,
And what did I miss that was captured by you today?
A hundred smiles I wish I could be there for,
A thousand scenes you graced along the way.
O, what happened happened, I hate to say.

But if you come home, and the children and the weather
Permit us the twenty minutes we'd want to spend,
(And if the water hasn't stopped by then)
We'll take a walk along the canal together,
And see if chance will allow it to happen again ;)
