What We Were Poem by Anisa Tara

What We Were

Someone told me once,
Under a sky I want to forget,
That no matter what happened,
I would always belong to them.

Today I think I'll be okay,
Although tears come like rain.
I no longer belong to anyone,
And that person has changed.

This is my apology to you,
For having kept you down.
I'm sorry for every tear shed,
I sorry you held on for so long.

I'm sorry for all the happy times,
It seems they have all gone to waste.
I clearly don't mean a thing to you,
For you to throw me away.

I'm sorry for forcing you to hear,
Every detail of a boy I liked,
Every time you shut me down,
A small part of me died.

I'm sorry I cared so much,
I'm sorry I wrote poems in your name,
Most of all I'm sorry,
That I wish we were still the same.

I'm sorry for every late night drive,
On every account of being a friend,
But most of all I am just so sorry,
All of this had to end.
