What You Want. Poem by Nile Milne

What You Want.

You keep saying that you regret the choice,
However, I am beginning to disbelieve it
This is due to the lack of action taken towards this feeling.
I do believe you hate this path,
However there is something that is keeping you from astray,
Be it pride or power it is obviously a stronger feeling than you realise.
Despite not liking this choice you have made
You shall stick with it, of your own accord,
You shall pass, in your own terms,
And at the end there will be some form of satisfaction.
It is this satisfaction that you, as most do, crave.
Once this mere three year exile is over you will have a weight lifted,
This will open up new paths for you to take.
But remember,
Whichever path you end up taking
And however far it takes you,
I will be behind you pushing you on when you slow down
I will be behind you catching you when you fall.
At the end you will be happy you chose this path
As this is the experience and path you chose;
It is what you wanted.
And at the end it will bring out your strengths and highlight them for the world to see.
And it is these strengths that will take you further,
Further than you could have ever imagined.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is something I came up with on the spot whilst messaging my girlfriend who was considering dropping out of University and changing her life. It did not start as intent on being a poem, but apparently it made her cry, which I felt would be good emotional intent to turn it into a poem.
