We were on holidays
At long last
Yet we weren't to part ways
For that die had not yet been cast

Still we parted-
Amidst mixed feelings
I wished she had not departed:
I felt there'd be other dealings

But we'd been together for some time
And had overcome the contempt from familiarity
At first our love had to be primed
But with time we adapted, one to the other's peculiarity

Hence it was hightime we faced the test-
The test of distance
Perhaps the other one would come to detest
When he met other people for instance!

So to Sagamu I came
And to Osogbo she went
Since we expected our love to remain the same-
To last forever, it was meant

And all went well for the first few weeks
When I was calling and she was there to receive
But suddenly I realised there were leaks-
Leaks through which our love was taking its leave!

Why she wouldn't call
Soon became my concern
Before I knew it I had stopped to call
And she quit when love she could no longer discern

Still I don't blame her for throwing in the towel -
Our love was plundered by MY trowel:
Ignoring her constituted rebuff
And for her enough was just enough!

Yet it wasn't even a call; it was a text
That stated the end was come
At her not seeking my consent I was vexed:
She should have called: I ain't deaf and dumb!

But her mind was made up
And my silence did not bring her back:
Our difference was in our blood's make-up -
There was no trying a different tack!

She nevertheless left a hole, a gap -
In my ever-loving heart
After months of endless love poems and rap
My crown falls off and things fall apart!

Of course the centre did not hold
As by Chinua Achebe we had been told;
By the time Blessing left
I was completely bereft!
