When I Sleep Poem by Muhumuza Simon

When I Sleep

remember the day
I was peeping,
Everyone else sleeping.
You, ruthless
Me, toothless.
My childhood joy,
Robbed of me,
By your senseless act
Senseless act of vice.
When I sleep,
I dream of that same day,
but this time with zeal
that I'll heal.
With enthusiasm and optimism,
that I'm a rock not a sponge,
and you, are weak like seven days.
When I sleep,
I sink in the deep waters
deep waters of thought,
and I vow not to let that
that night's misfortune,
Happen again.
Not to me,
Not to anyone
Known or unknown to me.
When I sleep,
I drown in prayer,
that such acts,
acts of sexual torture,
end now!
And forever!
