When I Was Ten Poem by Cecelia GrantPeters

When I Was Ten

Trees were so ‘climbey’, and birds were so near
Skies were so ‘bluey’ and clouds were so clear
Autumns were redder and winters much colder
But sadly, Miss Mandy will never get older,
And all of us played in the woods and the den
When I was ten.

Birdie would play in the Ladybird Glade
And Sanderson smiled at the swings that we made
Tina was meaner when Robbie was there,
And Sanderson laughed, for he just didn’t care
But Dorothy would not play with Ben
When I was ten.

Next, to the gravel pits or on to the Park
But we’d better run home just before it gets dark
Running through “Wooodlandy” feeling the breeze
Foresty smells and exhilarant breeze
And Johnnie would light a fire again
When I was ten.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
To get away from the fear of going home, I would often go out to 'Woodlandy' to play with my friends, this is a happy memory of when I was ten.
