When In High Office Poem by Dr John Celes

When In High Office

If I can’t do a little thing that’s good,
Why should I work in offices high, then?
If I can’t see that all get enough food,
’Tis better to accept defeat: resign!

If I can’t ensure welfare of the mass,
Why should I decorate the high office?
If I allow my precious time to pass,
Ignoring workers’ conditions, ’tis vice!

The bureaucrat must get all works well done,
With heart of strictness mixed with compassion;
One need not keep everyone on the run,
Because it is the latest one fashion!

Let humaneness prevail in higher-ups;
Refrain from sharing bitterness in cups!
