When Night Mourns The Day Poem by Danielle Visser

When Night Mourns The Day

I watch

With veiled eyes
As you make your final journey,
Your final mission.
White box
Lonely casket
Is there no room in there for two?

Remembering,
Your shining eyes,
Your carefree smile

I, the Night
And you the Day.

Quiet Night
Pale moon
Forever there yet unnoticed
By most

Except you

Constant and soothing,
And unchanging
The Night remains.
Not wind
Not rain
Nor snowy blizzard
Shall alter its unending darkness.

But the Day

The Day is affected by all
And all it affects
Its warmth can melt the coldest heart,

But its cold chills
To the bone

Magnificent Day
Mysterious Night

Forever entwined through fate,
Each relying on the other
Yet unable to exist at once.

And so it was destined for us.

And here we shall remain,
Forever perched at the precipice
Of each other’s world

For the Day shall rise no more.

Forever dark
Forever Night
No more shall the sun’s rays
Soothe and heal the aching earth

Mourned by all,
Not a single soul
You had not touched.
Orbs that shimmer
With wet
Like crystal spheres

Some,
Eyes which once looked upon you
With fear

They follow you now.

Not a breeze
Not a bird
Nor a blade of grass shall stir
As the world stands still

And the universe will know

That the Night mourns the Day.
