When Pains And Disease Were Nowhere In Sight Poem by sundaram chandrakalaadhar

When Pains And Disease Were Nowhere In Sight

and there ran a slender stream of joy inside me,
I made an appeal to death, 'take me to your silence '.
the same night a pain in my tooth said, 'hai ' '
and inconvenienced my food, landing me onto a sleepless bed.
I rushed for medicine of all disciplines with prayerful lips
and felt the fear of death when it would land with all its weapons.
I prayed to death to halt its march, pleading for a painless parting.
o death, how harsh and adamant would you be,
tearing my protesting soul from the tight clutch of my body?
