Truth knocked softly at my door...
I welcomed it, nothing more.
I thought honesty would set me free...
Instead, it turned and questioned me.
The lie walked proudly through the crowd,
Confident, smiling, fearless, loud.
While truth stood silent, bruised and still...
Condemned before another's will.
They searched my words instead of theirs,
Ignored the proof, ignored the tears.
The guilty breathed with hearts at ease...
While innocence fell to its knees.
How strange this world can choose to see...
A lie as truth, so willingly.
Yet honesty must stand and fight...
Just to prove that it was right.
The deepest wound was never the lie...
But watching truth be crucified.
Until the honest heart began...
To carry guilt it never planned.
I asked myself, 'Should I have stayed?
Would silence make the burden fade? '
But silence never changed what's true...
It only let the darkness grow.
So let them question... let them blame.
Let them argue, let them scream.
The truth remains the truth, the same.
For lies may win a season's game...
But time...
Will always remember
Who carried the truth...
And who carried the shame.
