When We Were Three Poem by kerri cummings

When We Were Three

My life was once so perfect when I was only three.
Everything was magical and simple as can be.
I believed in fairytales and always had BIG dreams.
But now that I'm older it feels like that's a fantasy.
My life isn't so easy like back when I was three.
Everyday I stuggle with the same routine.
We go to work, try our best and still, someones not impressed.
We come home and deal with the stress, that usually makes us all depressed.
We are nothing but machines in this dark eternity,
Doing what we can, still ending with uncertainty.
The hour glass has turned and our time is fading fast.
There is no second chance to ask, this one is our last.
How can we sit here and let our lives fly past
without any memory of how things used to be, like back when we were three?
