Where Are You, Spring? Poem by Gianfranco Aurilio

Where Are You, Spring?

Where are you, Spring?
I looked for you
in the fields near home
but I didn't find any flowers
to ask,
among the branches of the trees
but there were no leaves
that could tell me about you,
I went up
the mountain ridge
but there was only snow
and the river
couldn't answer me either
because it was hiding in the ice.
I was sad, Spring;
that's why I wanted to see you.
I didn't know who to ask
and then I asked the sun
and it told me

that I should look for you within myself.
