Where Has the Hair of My Beloved Gone?
Where has your hair gone, my beloved,
That once flowed softly in the breeze?
Where are the strands I used to watch
Sway gently beneath the trees?
Where has your hair gone, my beloved,
That once brushed lightly past my hand?
The years have carried you away
To some far and distant land.
I still remember moonlit nights,
Your shadow resting by my side;
Your hair was like a river flowing,
Where all my tender dreams would hide.
Now autumn falls upon the road,
The old trees whisper as before.
I search the wind for traces of you,
But find your footsteps here no more.
Where has your hair gone, my beloved?
Where does your lonely heart now stay?
Does the wind still touch your hair
As it did on those forgotten days?
If someday I should see you again,
Though silver threads replace the black,
I'll know you by the eyes I loved—
And pray that time will bring you back.
