Where Has Virtue Gone? Poem by Paul Beck

Where Has Virtue Gone?

That family, lost and gone away
left all of value in their flight,
their home is gone astray

They were so wanted, pleaded to stay
but as deniers of town's moral might
that family, lost and gone away

The house, it became nature's prey,
disheveled, and as strange as night
their home is gone astray

None knows where, nor will they;
strewn as a shredded kite
that family, lost and gone away

Its fabric has begun to fray,
the pigments fade to white
their home is gone astray

Too often virtue ebbs this way
protecting against such plight;
The family, lost and gone away
the home is gone astray.
