Where I Followed Poem by Mark. A Heathcote

Where I Followed

You disturb my sleep
with sunlight and rain
a wren entering a thicket
where I followed I do not know

It was a courtship behind closed curtains
a leap and back out again
I was bringing you flowers
you were sending me away
back out again with kisses
we were building something together
invisible to others

It was a staging of hope
a tangible beginning
I could smell the musk scent
of an opening rose
at the very moment of unfurling
a fragrance that encapsulated me
like bindweed in the dark
leaning to the light
to find its meaning
its nocturnal space
inseparable
universal place
