Where I'M From Poem by Michael Carlson

Where I'M From

I'm from the ashes, of a broken house upon a crumbing foundation, a broken family,
Molded and shaped by the arguments, the yelling, the sadness and frustration,
I'm from the books, the world I'd go to hide, to escape
I'm from nights spent staring at my ceiling, feeling lost, afraid
From the long hours spent alone, avoiding the yelling, isolation
A place no child should know, no child should see, should be
A place that ruins childhoods, that cuts, that scars bone deep
I'm from the ashes, of a broken house upon a crumbling foundation, a broken family,
