Wherefore? Tip Of The Hat To Dorothy Parker Poem by Richard St. Clair

Wherefore? Tip Of The Hat To Dorothy Parker

Many a well-worn tome of forgotten lore
Haunts me to this day: Obsession? Yes!
I love to dive into the arcane mess
Of weird and bizarre volumes, evermore!
Though know I well that they will someday vanish,
The tracks of men intrigue me to this day,
Their thoughts and creeds (confessed)not my mainstay,
When done with them they from my head I'll banish!
So why this scholarly intrigue? After all,
But few will live to spin the age-old story
Of why things mattered at all, a dubious glory!
Some day it all from dust to dust will fall.
Born to a bookman, such is my drear habit,
Cursed am I, or blessed? Tell me, dagnabit!
