While Sue Sat Reading Poem by Michael Gary Davis

While Sue Sat Reading

I paused last night
And watched you whilst you read.
You looked so small sat in
The corner of the room,
Wrapped in the hallowed light
Cast by the lamp.
You did not see me watching you,
Aware of my own good fortune
Through knowing how of all
The peoples of this Earth
You are the one who chose
To share my life:
Who fills my World
And in doing so negates
The need for other company
And makes me glad I live.

And in that stillness soft preserved
I held Love’s precious gift replete
As you sat silently reading
In quiet, mellow shaded light
That will remain through all my nights
Till you become my last eternal thought.
