I laid my feet on the shore I left,
My pretty dwelling that so bright,
Twenty-four years were huge to fight,
The goodbye gripped my soul with might
The doors in front were opened wide,
There, sat a man, lifetime who cried,
The sight of me upright in the shade,
Streamed a thrill through his spine.
He laughed like a child regaining his toy,
A glimmer of starlight flashed his joy.
My heart rose high as free love flowed,
His touch so cold as winter's snow
He whispered, his days are few
And time tipped like falling dew.
I wished the clock cease to turn,
For lullabies lost, my soul would yearn.
I longed to be his tiny girl,
The center still of his pricey world.
Yet fate's cold hand began to call,
And shadows gathered, dark and tall.
Within a week, his warmth had flown,
Leaving his wife stand alone,
He left a scar, so deep, so wide,
A wound that time cannot subside.
But in my heart, his love will stay,
A guiding light through night and day.
Though torn apart, I'll carry on,
For love like his is never gone.
