White Lies For The Soul At Dusk Poem by Winston Lu1

White Lies For The Soul At Dusk

I've held to my promise
Kept long in me to keep
To hold onto appearance
Weaknesses buried deep

White lies for expectations
Craving title and position
Trojan horses ensnare
Prospects sweep tides of youth

I‘ve kept other pacts
To always push on through
To meet faulty goals
That keep my heart untrue

For not would uncover
The scantily fertile land
That lies bereft great talent
Grasped so fleeting at hand

At times to conjure black lies
From the cauldron of dark fear
To elevate myself above others
I'd value flames over tears

Will others dry up?
I guess it's their choice to know
To choose red herring to self
Their toils long and slow
