Who Am I? Poem by Erika Wingo

Who Am I?

I don't know
When I became
Who I have become
I feel so insignificant
Inside the world
I am a nobody
Who used to be someone

I've retraced my footsteps
Backward through time
Never quite sure of
What I'm hoping to find
When I look in the mirror
I see someone else
I can hardly remember
Who I was as myself

I wear a mask
So no one will see
Beyond the facade
Barely able to breathe
Trapped inside someone
Who claims to be me
